MINIMUM CHARACTER HEIGHTS FOR VISUAL SIGNS (703.5.5)

Determining visual character height can sometimes be confusing. Use the chart
below as a reference for minimum character heights for room signs, directional
signs and informational signs.

Visual character height is based on height above the floor and minimum viewing distance.

Visual character height is based on the uppercase letter "I".

Minimum viewing distance is measured as the horizontal distance where an obstruction prevents further approach toward the sign.
